6/8/2012 - JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas -- Twelve Airmen from the 688th Information Operations Wing donated their time to Habitat for Humanity to help build a home for a deserving family in the San Antonio area May 12.
The Airmen worked on the wall panels for a home scheduled for completion by the end of summer, said Miriela Turner, Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio volunteer services assistant.
Staff Sgt. Rob Sisco, the 318th Operations Support Squadron cyber intelligence analyst who organized the trip, noted that it was the first in a renewed push to get his unit involved with community affairs.
"My goal was to make this an annual event and effort," he said. "I want the 688th IOW and the 318th Information Operations Group to have something they can all go together to do to help the community on a yearly basis."
Sisco's commander, Lt. Col. Dennis Moninghoff, expressed his pleasure in Sisco and the rest of his unit for the selfless dedication of their time.
"I'm very proud of Staff Sgt. Sisco for leading this effort to support the local community," he said. "He pulled together a team of personnel from not only our squadron, but from throughout the wing. People also reached out to their friends and colleagues from other units on base to join in the effort, with the result being a local family is that much closer to having a new home."
Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio is a non-profit housing organization that builds simple, decent, and affordable homes for low-income families who would not otherwise be able to afford a house. They have built 737 houses in their 35 years of operation. |
