6/8/2012 - JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas -- The 318th Operations Support Squadron hosted a Spouses' Fitness Challenge here May 31 to increase morale and give family members an appreciation of the rigorous physical fitness standards their Airmen uphold.
Nine spouses and five children from the unit participated in the event, which included a minute of pushups, a minute of crunches and a 1.5-mile run.
The event was organized by Hannah Livsey, a member of the 318th OSS's Key Spouse club. She noted that the challenge was aimed at raising awareness among military families.
"We came up with the event as a fun way to encourage spouse and family participation in the squadron, and to give people a feel for what military members have to go through when preparing for their fitness assessment," said Hannah.
Beyond demonstrating the Air Force's rigorous fitness standards, the challenge was also valuable for building cohesion within the unit, said Tech. Sgt. Rashaan Paine, 318th OSS weapons and tactics flight chief.
"Not only was (the challenge) good for the spouses, but it built unit morale," said Paine. "Now we see other squadron members not just as fellow co-workers, but also as husbands, wives and parents." |
