688th IOW recognizes annual award winners

2/3/2012 - JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas -- The 688th Information Operations Wing recognized its 2011 annual award winners at a banquet here Jan. 19.
Retired Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force Robert Gaylor, the event's keynote speaker, praised the award winners' spectacular performance and devotion to duty during the past year.
"Aptitude, motivation and attitude, applied appropriately, add up to success, and success equals opportunity," he said.
Col. Paul Welch, 688th IOW commander, celebrated the efforts of his personnel after presenting the awards.
"The power of the 688th IOW is the 1,200 people that make up the wing," he said. "We love technology, we really do, but the power of the wing is in you."
The awards recognized 10 Airmen and two units:
Airman of the Year - Senior Airman Shane Mehaffy
Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year - Tech. Sgt. Ty Lantta
Senior Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year - Master Sgt. Gary Lewis Jr.
Company Grade Officer of the Year - Capt. Donald Alexandre
Category I Civilian of the Year - Bradley Casey
Category II Civilian of the Year - Cynthia Teniente
Category II Civilian of the Year - Yvette Lopez
Category I Supervisory Civilian of the Year - Melvin Clemmons Jr.
Category II Supervisory Civilian of the Year - Mark Cunningham
First Sergeant of the Year - Senior Master Sgt. Gregory Butler
Small Team of the Year - 85th Engineering Installation Squadron Radio Direction Finding Team
Large Team of the Year - 85th Engineering Installation Squadron Specialized Engineering Flight |
