LACKLAND AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The 688th Information Operations Wing Cybertooth Tigers are in final preparations for the April 15 capture the flag-style Guardian Challenge competition.

"Our wing competition is designed to evaluate cyber skills used in various day-to-day operations of the 688th IOW," said Lt. Col. Tim Chong, 318th Information Operations Group director of operations. "It will evaluate the teams' knowledge in diverse topics such as forensics, networks, reverse engineering and logic."

Four three-person teams will battle for bragging rights when they combine their cyber and information operations knowledge with hands-on skills.

Using this competition the wing leadership will nominate the best team in assessments, training, test and evaluation, and weaponeering to represent the 688th IOW at the Air Force Space Command ceremony in May, added Colonel Chong.

As one of the newest wings in Space Command, this is the 688th IOW's first year competing in the historical biannual competition.

"Guardian Challenge offers an opportunity to embrace our game-changing capabilities in the 688th IOW," said Col. Robert Skinner, 688th IOW commander. "Our focus is on enabling full-spectrum cyberspace operations to our customers around the globe and we look forward to showing we're the best of the best!"

The wing also plans to host an upcoming Guardian Challenge fitness event to exercise the physical side of the competition.
