Mission:

When tasked, execute cyberspace attack and cyberspace intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (C-ISR) to provide global strike and ISR; develop, integrate, and employ cyber minded Airmen and capabilities in support of Joint Force Commander and National requirements.

Vision:
The 315 COS is amongst the USAF’s collectively elite group of offensive cyberspace squadrons.  Its innovative Airmen deliver unmatched combat capability in and throughout cyberspace, integrated amongst other warfighting domains.

People:
Authorized 132 selectively manned billets to carry out the 67th Cyber Wing’s “engage” line of effort.

Organization:
The 315 COS is headquartered at Fort Meade, Maryland, and is additionally comprised of one geographically-separated detachment (Detachment 3 at Fort Gordon, Georgia) and one operating location. Locally, the unit is comprised of 5 flights that are optimized to accomplish the mission.

Heritage:
The 315th Cyberspace Operations Squadron traces its lineage to the 15th Radio Squadron and 6922d Security Squadron. Constituted on 2 Feb 1951, the 15th Radio Squadron was activated on 9 Feb 1951 under the United States Air Force Security Service. The unit was then reconstituted, and consolidated with the 6922 Security Squadron on 1 Jul 1974 under the 6922 Security Group. Shortly thereafter, on 1 Aug 1979, the unit was again redesignated as the 6922 Electronic Security Squadron. The unit’s namesake began on 1 Oct 1993 when it was consolidated with the 315th Intelligence Squadron. The 315 IS was inactivated on 1 Jul 2001 and remained inactive until it was redesignated as the 315th Information Operations Squadron on 10 May 2005 and activated on 16 May 2005.  Since 2005 the 315th has been renamed twice; as the 315th Network Warfare Squadron on 26 July 2007 and the 315th Cyberspace Operations Squadron on 15 May 2015.
