The 691st Cyberspace Operations Squadron (691st COS) is located at Ramstein AB, Germany. The 691st COS delivers global, integrated cyberspace capabilities and effects across the AF Information Network (AFIN) by employing the Cyberspace Security Control System (CSCS) to assure cyberspace supremacy and mission assurance.  

As directed by the 24 AF (AFCYBER), the 691 Cyberspace Operations Squadron (COS) leverages CSCS capabilities to execute Defensive Cyberspace Operations(DCO) and DoD Information Network (DoDIN) Operations missions (Surveillance, Reconnaissance, Access, Strike Coordination and Reconnaissance (SCAR), Strike, Shape, Escort, Secure, and Extend) across five lines of effort (Build, Operate, Secure, Defend, Extend) to Deny, Degrade, Disrupt, Destroy, Manipulate (D4M) adversary actions and deliver Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability (CIA) effects across classified and unclassified cyberspace terrain.

History:

The 691st COS was established March 4, 2016 with the deactivation of the 83rd Network Operations Squadron Detachment 4 and the 690th Network Support Squadron Detachment 1.  

Mission:
The mission of the 691st COS is to deliver global, integrated cyberspace capabilities & effects by employing the Cyberspace Security Control System (CSCS) to assure global cyberspace supremacy and mission assurance, while developing Airmen as cyberspace warriors.

People:

The 691st Cyberspace Operations Squadron consists of approximately 200 active duty, contractor and civilian personnel.

Organization:
Today, the 691st COS is part of the 690th Cyberspace Operations Group and the 67 Cyberspace Wing, both located at Lackland AFB, Texas. These are subsequently aligned under the 24th Air Force and Air Force Space Command. 

Capabilities: 

Directory Services – Provides directory and authentication services for users and systems as well as DNS, DHCP, and the enforcement of system and user configuration through group policy.

Storage and Virtualization - Enables data and application recovery for system restoration and disaster recovery. Delivers efficient allocation of system resources among virtual systems.

Infrastructure – Enables core network interconnectivity across all devices from the enterprise down to the base boundary and routers and switches employing secure communication throughout the network. 

Vulnerability Assessment – Provides centralized operation of multiple scanners within the enterprise and a focused database for initiation, collection, and reporting of detailed scan information

Vulnerability Remediation - Enables deployment of operating systems and software across the enterprise and maintains an inventory of hardware and software on the domain.

End Point Protection – Utilizes advanced HIP/HID, client-side firewalls, application blocking, and on-demand/real-time virus scanning.

Monitoring – Conducts real-time monitoring of network resources across the enterprise with a suite of applications and solutions. They quickly identify the source of any alert.
