The 835th Cyberspace Operations Squadron (835 COS), located at Scott Air Force Base, Ill., provides premier Defensive Cyberspace Operations (DCO) maneuver/mission assurance capabilities to its mission partners.  The 835 COS has administrative control over three Cyberspace Protection Teams (CPTs) and is responsible for organizing, training and equipping its Cyber Protection Teams.  Each CPT is postured to conduct tailored DCO missions via a three-phase Survey, Secure and Protect employment methodology.

To protect critical Air Force and Department of Defense infrastructure and mission systems.

Vision:

To be the Department of Defense's transformational cyber protection squadron.

People:
The 835 COS is comprised of approximately 100 military, civilian and contractor positions.

Organization:
The 835 COS falls under the 688th Cyberspace Operations Group, 688th Cyberspace Wing, 24th Air Force and Air Force Space Command.  The 835 COS is one of five defensive cyberspace operations squadrons under the 688 COG.  The 835 COS postures forces through three service retained teams that are OPCON to Air Force Cyber Command (AFCYBER).

Cyberspace Capabilities:

The 835 COS presents forces to the United States Cyber Command as part of the Cyber Mission Forces construct.  Forces are presented as Cyberspace Protection Teams each comprised of five Squads with specialized capabilities:  Mission Protection, Cyberspace Readiness, Cyber Support, Discover and Counter-Infiltration and Cyber Threat Emulation.

835 COS conducts DCO employing the Cyberspace Vulnerability Assessment/Hunter (CVA/H) weapon system.  The CVA/H weapon system is designed to identify vulnerabilities and provide commanders with a comprehensive assessment of the risk of existing vulnerabilities on critical mission networks. 

The 835 COS utilizes the CVA/H weapon system, in concert with other friendly network defense forces, to provide AFCYBER and Combatant Commanders a mobile precision protection capability to identify, pursue, and mitigate cyberspace threats 

History:
On 1 December 2015 the 835 COS was activated immediately following the establishment of the 688th Cyberspace Operations Group.
