The 834th Cyberspace Operations Squadron (834 COS) is located at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas.  The Squadron is a component of USCYBERCOM's Cyber Mission Force and is composed of three Cyberspace Protection Teams postured to provide rapid, tailored defensive mission assurance to United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) and United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) global operations.

To employ and exploit the unique advantages of Cyber Protection Teams in the Defense of Air Force and Department of Defense critical mission areas.

Vision:
The Service’s best trained and most ready tactical cyber maneuver force … surgically inserted to allow friendly force cyber superiority and freedom of action in any domain.

People:
The 834 COS is comprised of approximately 120 military, civilian and contractor members.

Organization:
The 834 COS falls under the 688th Cyberspace Operations Group, 688th Cyberspace Wing, 24th Air Force and Air Force Space Command.  The 834 COS is one of five defensive cyberspace operations squadrons under the 688 COG.  The 834 COS presents forces to two mission partners -- USSTRATCOM and USNORTHCOM.

Cyberspace Capabilities:
The 834 COS and its Cyber Protection Teams utilize the Cyber Vulnerability Assessment/Hunter weapon system to conduct defensive cyber operations. 

History:
The squadron was originally designated as the 2068th Communications Squadron on 1 January 1963 at Hurlburt Field, Florida.  The unit was redesignated as the 834th Communications Squadron (834 CS) on 30 April 1991.  Over the course of the unit's history, it provided support to the 1st Air Commando Wing (later, the 1st Special Operations Wing) and Air Force Special Operations Command.  The 834 CS would go on to be inactivated on 24 March 1993.  Later, the squadron was selected to reactivate in order to support Cyber Protection Teams and integrate into the United States Cyber Mission Force as part of the 688th Cyberspace Wing.  The unit was redesignated as the 834th Cyberspace Operations Squadron on 17 November 2015 and was activated on 3 December 2015.
