39TH INFORMATION OPERATIONS SQ-DET 1

The 39th Information Operations Squadron, Detachment 1 (Det 1, 39 IOS), located at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, is the only detachment of the U.S. Air Force’s premier cyber formal training unit.  The unit conducts qualification and advanced training to provide mission-ready cyber warfare operators and intelligence analysts for ten Air Force Major Commands and United States Cyber Command. The detachment currently offers four courses: Cyber Warfare Operations (CWO), Cyber Vulnerability Assessment-Hunt (CVAH), Cyber Defense Analyst (CDA), and Cyber Intelligence Formal Training – Unit (CIFTU).

Provide initial qualification training for Airmen to plan and execute missions requiring Cyberspace and Information Operations capabilities

People:
32 professionals perform the Det 1, 39 IOS mission.  The instructor corp consists of 26 experienced active duty, reserve, civilians and contractors with expertise ranging from cyber warfare, electronic warfare and intelligence analysis. 

Organization:
Det 1, 39 IOS is part of the 39th Information Operations Squadron, located at Hurlburt Field, Florida.  It belongs to the 318th Cyberspace Operations Group and the 688th Cyberspace Wing, both located at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, which are aligned under 24th Air Force and Air Force Space Command. 

Cyberspace Capabilities:
Det 1, 39 IOS is currently building a state-of-the-art 8400 square-foot facility featuring three classrooms and a conference room; each equipped with cutting edge communication and computer systems. 

History:

Det 1, 39 IOS was activated on 3 November 2014.  The initial cadre of permanent party members arrived on station between December 2014 and April 2016.  On 22 June 2015, the first class began utilizing a temporary facility.  On 10 July 2015, the first commander of the unit assumed command.
